QR labels for hard drives
Stick it, scan it, find it. A QR label turns a drive into something you can check in and out in about two seconds.
Scanning to move a drive
Scanning a label with the Vault Buddy app opens that drive directly. From there a handoff is one action, so a drive changing hands on set costs a scan rather than a form. Scanning it back in on return closes the loan.
What a stranger sees
Anyone can scan the label with a plain phone camera. They land on a public page showing that the drive is tracked, who to contact, and how to return it. They do not see your file list, your snapshots, or your other drives. A found drive becomes a returned drive without you publishing anything about its contents.
Printing
Labels are laid out for standard thermal label stock, so they print on hardware you can buy off the shelf rather than anything proprietary.
- DYMO LabelWriter series, including the 550 Turbo
- Brother thermal label rolls
- Plain sheet stock, if you would rather not buy a label printer
Codes are uppercase alphanumeric, which keeps them dense and readable at small label sizes and on labels that have taken some abuse in a case.
